Oyo Abductions: Security Beefed Up Around Aso Rock Over Planned Protest By Sowore, Others

There is an unusually heavy presence of security operatives along the various routes leading to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The security agents sighted on Thursday are mainly from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

There has been no official statement on the reason for the deployment.

However, the security measure may have been occasioned by reports of a planned protest convened by human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, alongside the Take It Back Movement, scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The protest, which had been planned to begin at the Eagle Square, was expected to proceed to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa from 8:00

According to the organisers, the protest was intended to demand the immediate release of schoolchildren, teachers, and other victims abducted across the country.

The abduction occurred on May 15 when gunmen stormed Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, and kidnapped 45 pupils and teachers.

Days later, one of the abducted teachers, reportedly a Mathematics teacher, was said to have been killed by the attackers.
