GEEP SET TO DISBURSE LOAN TO OVER 20,000 APPLICANTS, RECRUITS 774 LGA OFFICERS

The Federal Government has rolled out the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) to disburse interest-free business and farming loans of up to ₦300,000 to targeted applicants. To ensure transparency and proper local targeting, the government recruited 774 GEEP Desk Officers and field enumerators across each of the 774 Local Government Areas .

Key Features of the GEEP Loan Schemes

The GEEP loan initiative features zero interest, zero collateral, and a 3-month moratorium before repayment. It operates through three main flagship categories

TraderMoni: Targets youths aged 18 to 40 involved in petty trades and skill-based businesses.

MarketMoni: Focuses on vulnerable women (such as widows and female heads of households) aged 18 to 55

FarmerMoni: Assists rural farmers by providing loans up to ₦300,000 for agricultural inputs.

How the Application and Disbursement Process Works

To ensure the process is free of “ghost” beneficiaries and fraudulent intermediaries, the scheme is fully digitized:

  1. Registration: Applicants provide identification details—such as their BVN and national ID—via the GEEP Loan Application Portal or regional registration hubs
  2. Enumeration: Trained GEEP officers and enumerators at the local government level screen and verify the applicant’s business or trade.
  3. Disbursement: Once approved, beneficiaries are banked, issued ATM cards, and sent sensitisation notifications alongside loan repayment schedules.
