Meta Quietly Launches AI-Powered Gaming App ‘Pocket’
Meta has quietly introduced a new experimental app called Pocket, an artificial intelligence-powered platform that enables users to create and share interactive mini-games and digital experiences using simple text prompts. The app, which appeared on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store without a formal announcement from Meta, is designed as a creative platform where users can generate what the company calls “gizmos”—small interactive games and experiences that can be played, shared and remixed by others.
Pocket is the latest addition to Meta’s growing portfolio of AI-powered creative tools. The launch follows the company’s acquisition earlier this year of the team behind Gizmo, a startup known for developing AI-assisted game creation technology. The new app builds on that technology, allowing users to create games without writing code by simply describing what they want through text prompts. In addition to game creation, Pocket features a social discovery feed where users can browse, play and remix creations made by others. The app supports interactive elements such as touch controls, sound effects and other mobile device features, making it possible to produce engaging mini-games within minutes.
Although Meta has yet to officially announce the product or provide details about its global rollout, industry observers believe the quiet launch suggests the company is still testing the platform before a wider release. Data from app intelligence firm Appfigures indicates that Pocket first became available on major app stores on June 29, though it only gained widespread attention after app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi highlighted its existence on social media. The release underscores Meta’s continued investment in artificial intelligence as it seeks to expand beyond social networking into AI-driven content creation. Over the past year, the company has introduced several AI tools for generating images, videos and other digital content, with Pocket extending those capabilities into interactive gaming.Technology analysts say Pocket could make game development more accessible by allowing users with little or no programming experience to create playable experiences. If widely adopted, the platform could further accelerate the growing trend of AI-assisted software and game creation.
Meta has not commented publicly on Pocket’s future plans, availability in additional markets or potential monetisation features. However, the app signals the company’s ambition to make AI-powered creativity a central part of its product ecosystem as competition in the artificial intelligence space continues to intensify.
