FIFA has announced that it has sold approximately 6.5 million tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, nearly doubling the previous tournament’s ticket sales record and placing the governing body on course to exceed its projected revenue target of $11 billion. The record-breaking ticket sales reflect the unprecedented global demand for the expanded tournament, which is being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The 2026 edition is the first FIFA World Cup to feature 48 national teams, increasing the number of matches and creating more opportunities for fans to attend games.

According to FIFA, the strong ticket demand has been driven by enthusiastic support from football fans across the world, with several group-stage and knockout fixtures selling out shortly after tickets became available. The governing body said the impressive sales figures have significantly boosted commercial revenues through ticketing, sponsorships, broadcasting rights and hospitality packages, putting FIFA in a strong position to surpass its projected $11 billion revenue target for the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the tournament as the biggest in the competition’s history, highlighting the overwhelming global interest and the financial success achieved so far.The expanded competition has also generated substantial economic benefits for the host nations through increased tourism, hospitality, transportation and retail activities, with millions of supporters travelling to attend matches. With the tournament progressing into its decisive stages, FIFA expects ticket sales and commercial revenues to continue rising as fans compete for seats at the remaining knockout fixtures and the final.
