Super Falcons to Open WAFCON 2026 Training Camp in Morocco on July 15
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will officially begin the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they open a training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, on July 15.The nine-day camping programme will allow the team’s technical crew to fine-tune tactics, assess player fitness and build team chemistry ahead of Africa’s biggest women’s football tournament, which is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16.
Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to announce his final 24-player squad before the team departs for Morocco. The camp follows a series of international friendly matches, including successful outings against Senegal, which provided the coaching staff with an opportunity to evaluate players ahead of the competition.The Super Falcons enter the tournament as defending champions and remain the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria will be aiming to win a record-extending 11th continental title while also securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.The team has been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt. Nigeria will begin its title defence against Malawi on July 28 before facing Zambia on August 1. The Super Falcons will conclude the group stage against Egypt on August 5, with all three matches scheduled to be played in Rabat.
Football analysts believe the Morocco training camp will be crucial in helping the coaching crew finalize tactical plans and ensure players reach peak physical condition before the tournament begins.Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and several experienced players are expected to lead a squad that combines established stars with promising young talents. The technical crew hopes the blend of experience and youth will give Nigeria another strong chance of lifting the continental trophy.Beyond the race for the WAFCON title, the competition also serves as Africa’s qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The four teams that reach the semi-finals will qualify automatically for the global tournament.
