Western Allies Announce Fresh Military Support for Ukraine at Paris Summit
Western leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine by announcing new military and financial assistance during a high-level summit held in Paris.The meeting brought together leaders from several European nations, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany and other allies, alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and reinforcing Europe’s collective security in the face of the ongoing war with Russia.
One of the major outcomes of the summit was the launch of a new coalition involving Ukraine and several European countries to develop a shared ballistic missile defence system. Leaders said the initiative is aimed at improving Europe’s ability to counter missile threats while drawing on Ukraine’s battlefield experience.
French President Emmanuel Macron also announced that France would allow Ukraine to manufacture selected French-made weapons under licence. The agreement includes the production of SCALP cruise missiles, AASM precision-guided bombs and Aster air defence missiles. Ukraine has also placed orders for additional air defence systems and Rafale fighter jets to strengthen its military capabilities.In another significant development, the United Kingdom agreed to join the European Union’s Ukraine Support Loan scheme. The arrangement will allow British defence companies to participate in contracts financed through the €90 billion programme designed to support Ukraine’s defence sector and reconstruction efforts.
President Zelenskyy welcomed the decisions reached at the summit, describing them as an important step toward improving Ukraine’s security and protecting Europe from future threats. He called for continued international unity, noting that sustained support remains essential as Russian attacks continue.The leaders also discussed expanding defence cooperation, conducting joint military exercises and increasing pressure on Russia through coordinated security initiatives.
Analysts say the decisions reached in Paris demonstrate that Ukraine’s allies remain committed to providing long-term military and economic support despite the prolonged nature of the conflict.
