2026: ‘Your rightful demands will receive speedy approval’ – Oyebanji to Teachers
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has solidified a reputation as a teacher-friendly leader by ensuring prompt approvals for educators’ welfare and career advancement. His administration’s efforts to clear outstanding leave bonuses, elevate primary school teachers to Grade Level 16, and secure housing loans have earned him their backing for re-election.
The governor’s sweeping reforms to boost teacher morale and improve the state’s education sector include:
.Career Progression: Oyebanji made history by elevating over 5,000 primary school teachers—including 231 head teachers—to Grade Level 16, bringing them on par with counterparts in the core civil service.
Financial Incentives: His administration has actively disbursed millions in vehicle and housing loans, as well as clearing outstanding leave bonuses. He has also previously doled out cash prizes worth nearly ₦48 million to outstanding teachers.
Retirement Extension: The state approved the extension of the mandatory retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years and increased the years of service from 35 to 40 years to retain experienced hands.
Allowances: Oyebanji authorized upward reviews of science allowances and initiated payments for past leave bonuses.
Teachers across primary and secondary schools in the state have openly acknowledged his people-centric policies. In Ado-Ekiti, educators from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) have repeatedly praised the Oyebanji administration for addressing long-standing systemic requests.
