Makinde: No Ransom Paid for Release of Abducted Oyo School Pupils, Teachers
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed claims that ransom was paid to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that the victims regained their freedom through coordinated security efforts.Speaking after the successful rescue of the victims, Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and all those who played a role in ensuring the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.The governor described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the state, maintaining that his administration would not encourage criminality by paying ransom to kidnappers.
Makinde said the rescue demonstrated the effectiveness of collaboration between the state government and federal security agencies. According to him, the operation was carefully coordinated to ensure the victims returned safely without compromising public safety.He assured residents that the state government would continue investing in security and intelligence gathering to prevent future attacks, stressing that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains a top priority.
The governor also commended the patience and resilience shown by the families of the abducted pupils and teachers throughout the period of uncertainty. He said the state government would provide the necessary support to help the victims recover from their traumatic experience and reunite fully with their families.The abduction occurred several weeks ago when armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, kidnapping dozens of pupils and teachers. The incident sparked widespread concern across the country and renewed calls for stronger security around educational institutions.
