Ekiti govt approves N6.29bn for rehabilitation of Ado-Ekiti roads

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦6,290,549,973.44 for the rehabilitation of major township roads in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance urban mobility within the city.

The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, who said the meeting was presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He noted that the project forms part of the present administration’s sustained commitment to infrastructural development across the state.

According to the statement, the roads approved for rehabilitation include the New Iyin–NTA Road, a 2.8-kilometre dualised road; Onigari–Spotless Hotel–Egbewa Road (1.6 km); Ijigbo–Baptist High School Road, a 3.5-kilometre dualised road; Okesa–Oke Ori Omi–Irona Road (1.2 km); Oke Iyinmi–Fajuyi–Police Headquarters Road (5.4 km); Ecobank–Mobil Filling Station, Ajilosun Road, a 1.6-kilometre dualised road; and the Ile Abiye–Bisi Egbeyemi Crescent–Government House Gate Road, measuring 345 metres.Olatunbosun explained that the rehabilitation of the roads is expected to significantly improve traffic flow within the capital city and ease the movement of residents, goods, and services, thereby boosting socio-economic activities in Ado-Ekiti and its environs.

He noted that the road rehabilitation programme is being implemented in phases, with the latest approval representing a new phase of the initiative aimed at upgrading critical road infrastructure across the city.

“The current approval represents another phase of the government’s sustained effort to upgrade critical road infrastructure in Ado-Ekiti and improve urban mobility within the city,” the commissioner said, adding that additional phases of the project would commence in due course.

The statement further disclosed that the project has been awarded to Messrs Delko Holdings Nigeria Limited, an indigenous construction company that recently completed the rehabilitation of the Itapa–Omu–Ijelu Road.

According to the government, the construction work is expected to be completed within 12 months.

As work begins on the roads, the state government appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with contractors and traffic management officials by observing traffic signs, exercising patience, and making use of designated alternative routes where necessary.

The government also expressed appreciation to residents for their patience and understanding, assuring them that it remains committed to the continuous provision and maintenance of quality road infrastructure that will enhance mobility, support economic growth, and improve the overall living standards of the people of Ekiti State.

Olatunbosun added that the government also approved the sum of ₦1 billion for the reconstruction and remodelling of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in the state capital, saying, “the move is a reflection of the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure in the state to meet national and international standards.”

The statement revealed that “an additional contract sum of ₦1,056,326,627.52 was therefore approved for the extra work, bringing the new total contract sum to ₦2,679,911,110.51, with a 12-month completion timeline.

“The enhanced Oluyemi Kayode Stadium is expected to meet National Football League standards, elevate the spectator experience, and provide world-class facilities for athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts in Ekiti State.”
