FG Committed to Creating Opportunities for Youth Through Skills Acquisition – Shettima
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating more opportunities for Nigerian youths through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing unemployment.
Speaking at a recent event, the Vice President said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is determined to equip young Nigerians with practical skills that will enable them to compete in today’s rapidly evolving economy. He stressed that empowering the youth remains one of the government’s top priorities because they represent the country’s greatest asset and future.
Shettima noted that beyond formal education, the government is placing greater emphasis on vocational training, digital innovation and entrepreneurship as essential tools for national development. According to him, providing young people with marketable skills will not only enhance their employability but also encourage them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
He explained that several programmes are being implemented across different sectors to support youth development, including initiatives focused on technology, agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy and small business development. These programmes, he said, are designed to help young Nigerians unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic growth.The Vice President also called on the private sector, development partners and educational institutions to collaborate with the government in expanding access to quality training and employment opportunities. He emphasized that sustainable youth empowerment requires a collective effort involving both public and private stakeholders.
According to Shettima, the Federal Government is committed to creating an enabling environment where innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship can thrive. He added that policies aimed at improving access to finance, supporting startups and strengthening vocational education are expected to accelerate youth participation in the economy.
He encouraged young Nigerians to take advantage of available government programmes and remain committed to developing skills that meet the demands of the modern workforce. He noted that determination, innovation and continuous learning are essential qualities for success in today’s competitive world.
Stakeholders at the event commended the government’s renewed focus on youth empowerment, describing investment in human capital as a critical step toward achieving sustainable national development. They expressed optimism that expanded skills acquisition programmes would help reduce unemployment and improve economic productivity across the country.
The Federal Government reiterated that it will continue to introduce policies and initiatives that promote youth inclusion, economic empowerment and sustainable development. Officials believe that by investing in the knowledge and skills of young people, Nigeria will be better positioned to build a stronger economy and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
