Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Fanwo
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, has reaffirmed Governor Usman Ododo’s unrelenting effort to ensure that government officials exhibit ethical conduct and accountability to their people.
The commissioner gave the affirmation while receiving an Award of Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience from a non-governmental organisation, the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, in his office in Lokoja, having traced his antecedents over the past ten years and discovered no traces of corruption in his name.
He commended the centre for the prestigious award, adding that the organisation was doing the right thing Nigeria needs at the moment – value orientation – in order to position the nation among the top countries of the world and assure citizens’ trust in government as all necessary procedures are being followed.
“What you are doing for Nigeria is what Nigeria needs. We need value orientation. We need value reorientation. We need to learn, unlearn and continue to learn until we are able to position our country in such a way that we will be able to match with the rest of the global community that are doing things right,” Fanwo emphasised.
Fanwo reiterated that Governor Ododo is a good leader who has demonstrated sound and quality leadership at all levels. He stressed that Governor Ododo’s administration had signed into law an inbuilt mechanism to check corruption and abuse of power in the mode of ICPC and EFCC in the state. He described the Act as a system anchored on due process, transparency and accountability.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the organisation, ethicist Prince Salihu Musa Yakubu, highlighted that the award, tagged “Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience”, was specially designed for people who have distinguished themselves in all ramifications.
According to the Executive Director, the vision of the past heroes is yet to be realised due to corruption in the national system, stressing that the commissioner was singled out for the award because of his integrity and the quality services he renders to the people of the state.
He said corruption had festered deep into the country because of poor moral and ethical values, adding that those who have lived above board, like the commissioner, should be celebrated.
Prince Salihu emphasised that they do not let MDAs know when they are being secretly investigated, to avoid any possible influence on their work and to guarantee quality assurance against corruption and reportage.
Analysing the result of their thorough research, the Executive Director stated that the Kogi Information Ministry had been ranked among the shortlisted top 23 MDAs/10 LGAs in the state, and among the top 10 state ministries of information, ranking 2nd overall in Nigeria and 1st in the North Central zone. The state, therefore, has met corporate ethics and integrity compliance certification, and a gold medal was presented to Hon Fanwo.
For the excellent performance of the commissioner at the helm of affairs of the ministry, the organisation granted a special privilege for 100 staff of the ministry to be trained latest by May 2026, with 60 per cent of the expenses to be borne by the organisation and 40 per cent by the ministry, describing the gesture as a reward for winning the award.
Prince Salihu commended Hon Fanwo for carrying out a lot of reforms in the information sector and for reducing internal corrupt tendencies in the ministry, stressing that public perception about his leadership is superb.
