Great Ife Alumni Ede mourns Prof AbdulGafar Siyan Oyeweso

The Great Ife Alumni Association, Ede Branch, has announced the death of one of its foremost members and community pillars, Prof. AbdulGafar Siyan Oyeweso, who passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Prof. Oyeweso, a respected academic and cultural scholar, was widely regarded as one of Ede’s most distinguished intellectual exports and a proud alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

Over the course of his career, he held several key leadership positions, including Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the OAU Governing Council, Provost of the Postgraduate College at Osun State University, and Executive Director of the Center for Black Culture and International Understanding.

In a statement signed by the Ede Branch Chairman, Barrister Olatunde Bello, and Branch Secretary, QS Gbenga Akanfe, the association described Prof. Oyeweso as a man of vision, an exemplary scholar, and a devoted contributor to institutional and community development.

According to the association, his influence within the Ede Branch was profound, noting that he consistently inspired members with his intellect, humility, and unwavering commitment to excellence. “His legacy will continue to guide and motivate generations of Great Ife alumni,” the statement said.

The alumni body extended condolences to the late professor’s family, colleagues, and friends, emphasizing that his contributions to academia, culture, and community advancement would remain indelible

Prof. Oyeweso is remembered as one of the strongest pillars of the Great Ife Alumni family in Ede and an icon whose impact transcended the institutions he served.
