Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) steps down for guber race

The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji, has stepped down from his position as he prepares to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election

Oyebamiji confirmed his exit in a message on Friday night, explaining that the decision was in line with electoral regulations as he prepares to vie for the Osun State governorship in 2026.

He said, “Yes, I have resigned in accordance with the electoral law to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition.”

A close associate of the former NIWA chief also confirmed the development, noting that Oyebamiji opted to exit the role to dedicate his full attention to the governorship race.

“He has indeed resigned. He is contesting, and he wants to focus fully on the campaign,” the source said.

The experienced banker, economist, and administrator is expected to officially announce his entry into the Osun gubernatorial race in the weeks ahead.
