
May Yul-Edochie Sues Former Lawyer, Others for ₦1.5 Billion Over Alleged Leak of Private Information
May Yul-Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit before a Lagos High Court against her former lawyer, Yinka Omolola Theisen, activist Emeka Ugwuonye and several unidentified social media account operators over the alleged leakage of her private information and sustained online harassment.The suit, filed through her legal representatives at Greylaw Partners, seeks damages, injunctions and court orders compelling the removal of disputed content from social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and X.
According to court documents, May alleges that her former lawyer breached solicitor-client confidentiality by publicly disclosing information obtained during the course of legal representation. She also claims the defendants orchestrated a prolonged campaign of online harassment involving defamatory publications, AI-generated images, manipulated photographs, fabricated stories, insulting content and the alleged disclosure of her personal contact details.
May further contends that the alleged actions caused her severe emotional distress, damaged her reputation and led to the loss of endorsement deals and business opportunities.The lawsuit is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye, ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen, and additional court orders directing social media platforms to help identify anonymous account operators allegedly involved in the campaign.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has directed that court processes be served on the defendants through all known contact channels. The case has been adjourned for a report on the service of court documents.The legal action marks the latest development in the long-running public dispute surrounding the Edochie family, with the court expected to determine the merits of the allegations as proceedings continue.
