Nigeria to inaugurate military jetty for arms production in November

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-D7G (DICON-D7G) is set to inaugurate a dedicated Nigerian military jetty for the production of arms and ammunition.

Speaking at the sidelines of the African International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) on Tuesday, Morakinyo Abiodun, retired brigadier-general and director at DICON-D7G, said the military jetty will be inaugurated by the end of November 2026.

Abiodun said DICON-D7G will be manufacturing, producing, and assembling weapons at the military jetty located at Tedi Island in Ojo LGA of Lagos state.

The retired brigadier-general said in the next 10 years, Nigeria will be sufficient in production of arms and equipment.

“We are producing the weapons Nigeria requires. Most of our rifles use 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition, which we produce in Kaduna. Our company will launch a military jetty in Ojo, Lagos, in November,” he said.

“We will be manufacturing, assembling, and producing tanks, armoured personnel carriers (APCs), boats, medium-range anti-tank missiles (MRATs), drones, and other equipment. We will be in a good position in the long run. We have to believe in our country.

“Nigeria has made progress in the production of arms and ammunition over the last five years. The DG103 is a weapon manufactured at the DICON factory in Kaduna by D7G, and we also assemble other weapons. Our aim is to manufacture more weapons locally in Nigeria.”

DICON-D7G is a company formed following a partnership between the Nigerian government-owned DICON and D7G company limited. The company was established for the production of military hardware and equipment in Nigeria.

In November 2023, President Bola Tinubu signed the DICON bill into law to empower the military to manufacture arms and ammunition in Nigeria.

‘WE WANT TO SUPPORT NIGERIA’S DEFENCE CAPACITIES’

Also speaking at the sidelines of AFRIDEX 2026, Thamer Al Emadi, regional general manager for Africa, Barzan Holdings, a Qatari-based organisation involved in the production of military hardware, said the company is committed to supporting Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

Al Emadi said AFRIDEX has provided the platform for the organisation to engage in strategic conversations with Nigerian leadership, defence procurement officials, and regional partners.

He added that he believes the discussions will translate to commercial agreements and long-term alliances for regional stability.
