PDP Urges Tinubu to Order Independent Probe into PFIPC Allegations
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct an independent forensic investigation into allegations surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that the Presidency “cannot escape accountability” over claims involving the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.In a statement issued on Saturday, the opposition party said the seriousness of the allegations requires a transparent and impartial investigation to establish the facts and reassure Nigerians that public institutions are being managed with accountability and integrity.The PDP argued that the Presidency has a responsibility to address concerns raised about the PFIPC and ensure that any official found to have acted improperly is held accountable in accordance with the law. The party maintained that an independent forensic probe would help dispel doubts and strengthen public confidence in the government’s commitment to transparency.
According to the party, the investigation should be conducted by an independent body with the necessary expertise to examine all relevant documents, financial records and operational activities linked to the allegations. The PDP added that the outcome of such a probe should be made public to promote openness and accountability.The call follows recent reports and allegations concerning the activities of the PFIPC and references to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. However, neither the Presidency nor Gbajabiamila has been found liable for any wrongdoing, and no independent investigation has concluded that any offence was committed. As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not issued a formal response to the PDP’s latest demand. The allegations remain unproven, and no official findings have been released by any law enforcement or anti-corruption agency. The PDP said it will continue to press for what it described as greater accountability in public office, while urging the Federal Government to ensure that all allegations involving public institutions are investigated transparently and credibly.
