As the All Progressives Congress (APC) converges for its National Convention on March 26–28, 2026, the party stands at a definitive crossroads of political evolution.
Since his historic consensus assumption of office on July 24, 2025, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has orchestrated a profound paradigm shift, transitioning the APC from a traditional political apparatus into a data-driven, ideologically grounded, and digitally integrated institution.
The groundswell of support for Professor Yilwatda’s unopposed return is not merely a gesture of partisan solidarity; it is a calculated endorsement of technocratic excellence, institutional stability, and visionary leadership.
His triad of transformations are embedded in Digitalization, Inclusivity, and discipline.
As a distinguished Academic, Engineer, and former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, he has successfully applied the precision of systems engineering to the complexities of political administration, causing his tenure to be defined by three foundational pillars:
- The Digital Revolution & E-Registration; Leveraging his expertise as a former ICT Director and INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof.Yilwatda eliminated the vulnerabilities of manual records by instituting a comprehensive nationwide e-registration framework, thereby successfully sanitizing the party’s database ensuring a “one member, one digital identity” reality that renders “ghost membership” obsolete.
- His Strategic Reconciliations and Party Harmonization mechanism has seen him function as a master bridge-builder in almost all the inherited landscape of internal frictions. Through high-level synergy with the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and the Presidency, he has replaced litigation with diplomacy and consultations aimed at peaceful resolution, thereby enabling a culture where consensus precedes confrontation.
- Prof Nantawe has adhered to the presidential mandate of “wet the grass,” which has occasioned the decentralization of party influence, revitalizing ward and local government structures.
He has ensured the APC remains a living organism rooted in community engagement rather than an “Abuja-centric” bureaucracy.
The argument for Prof. Yilwatda’s continued leadership rests on the necessity of uninterrupted momentum deeply rooted in
his intellectual depth in governance as there is no gain saying that mid-flight changes in leadership often invite fragmentation.
With the 73-member National Convention coordination already optimized, Yilwatda provides the steady hand required to navigate the complexities of a second term without the turbulence of a transition period.
His tenure has been marked by an intentional expansion of the party’s demographic reach, through active engagement with the APC Female Aspirants Network (FAFAN) and specialized programs for Youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) therefore broadening the party’s appeal to a more diverse, 21st-century electorate.
As a professor of computer engineering, Yilwatda brings a rare analytical rigor to the chairmanship status, shifting the party’s focus toward evidence-based strategies as well as aligning the APC’s internal policy with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of Mr. President.
In conclusion, while building for the Next Generation, it is important to note that modern political leadership requires a sophisticated blend of technological savvy and political emotional intelligence.
Prof. Nantawe’s re-election ensures that the APC remains the most organized, innovative, and formidable political force in the West African sub-region as
Leadership is not measured by the proximity of the next election but by the prosperity of the next generation.
Under Professor Yilwatda, we are not just winning cycles; we are building a legacy.”
