Super Falcons to Open WAFCON 2026 Training Camp in Morocco on July 15
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will begin the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, starting on July 15.The week-long camp is expected to help the team’s technical crew fine-tune tactics, improve fitness levels and strengthen team chemistry ahead of the continental tournament, which will take place from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco.
Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to announce his final 24-player squad before the team departs for the training camp. The preparations come after the Super Falcons recorded encouraging performances in recent international friendly matches against Senegal.
Nigeria heads into the competition as defending champions and the most successful team in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Falcons will be aiming to win a record-extending 11th continental title while also securing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.The team has been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt. Nigeria will begin its campaign against Malawi on July 28 before facing Zambia on August 1. The Super Falcons will conclude the group stage against Egypt on August 5, with all three matches scheduled to be played in Rabat.Football analysts believe the Morocco training camp will play a crucial role in preparing the players physically and tactically for the challenges ahead. The coaching crew is expected to use the period to assess player combinations and finalize strategies before the tournament begins.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade is expected to lead the squad, alongside a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents who have impressed in recent outings. Expectations remain high as Nigeria seeks to continue its dominance in African women’s football.Beyond the race for the continental title, WAFCON 2026 also serves as the African qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The four semi-finalists will qualify automatically for the global tournament.
