Wike, Rainbow Coalition leaders storm Fubara’s residence in strategic meeting to kick off campaign

The political temperature is  Rivers State was high on Tuesday evening  as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, led key leaders of the Rainbow Coalition to the private residence of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt.

The high-level meeting, described by political sources as a major step in the emerging rapprochement between the two camps, is believed to be part of intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting was particularly significant as it was said to be the first time Wike would visit Fubara at his private residence since the political crisis that tore apart their once formidable political alliance.

Sources close to the development said the meeting focused largely on consolidating the peace process and building a working political relationship between Fubara’s camp and the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 electoral battle.

The meeting came amid Wike’s renewed political activities in Rivers, where he has been holding a series of marathon consultations with political allies, stakeholders and supporters as the coalition prepares to unveil its wider mobilisation strategy.

Sources said Monday’s meeting brought together prominent supporters of Fubara and leaders of the Rainbow Coalition, with the participants agreeing on the need to close ranks and work together towards a common political objective.

The development signals a potentially significant shift in the political calculations ahead of 2027, with the two sides apparently moving from reconciliation to political cooperation.

According to sources, the discussions also centred on strengthening collaboration among the various political structures and avoiding actions capable of reopening the wounds created by the prolonged crisis.

The sources said the meeting was not merely a courtesy call but part of a broader political engagement designed to consolidate the peace agreement and prepare the ground for the coalition’s 2027 mobilisation in Rivers.

Wike had in recent weeks stepped up consultations in the state as political parties and emerging coalitions begin positioning for the 2027 elections.

The sources said both camps were determined to sustain the peace and collaborate on issues of common interest as the political realignment ahead of 2027 gathers momentum.
