Wike Says FCT’s Monthly IGR Has Increased from ₦9bn to Over ₦40bn
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the current administration has increased the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from ₦9 billion to more than ₦40 billion monthly within three years.Wike made the disclosure while highlighting the achievements of the FCT Administration under President Bola Tinubu’s government, attributing the significant rise in revenue to reforms aimed at improving tax collection, land administration and revenue generation across the territory.
According to the minister, the increase in IGR has enhanced the administration’s capacity to fund critical infrastructure projects and improve service delivery without relying solely on allocations from the Federation Account.
He said the revenue growth has supported the construction and rehabilitation of roads, expansion of public infrastructure, improvements in healthcare and education facilities, and other developmental projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike noted that the administration has also intensified efforts to block revenue leakages, strengthen transparency and ensure greater compliance with tax and statutory payment obligations. He added that these measures have contributed significantly to the steady increase in monthly revenue.The minister reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to sustaining the reforms and maintaining prudent financial management to drive further development in Abuja and its satellite towns.
He also assured residents that the additional revenue generated would continue to be channelled into projects that improve the quality of life, stimulate economic activities and position the Federal Capital Territory as a modern and globally competitive capital city.The announcement comes as the FCT Administration continues to implement major infrastructure projects and urban renewal initiatives aimed at transforming Abuja into a world-class capital while improving public services for residents.
